Twitter Is For Sale, MySpace and Social Media

Twitter is one of my most favorite social media, probably just a little more than Facebook for some reasons and that I look at Twitter more of an intelligent system than Facebook is. Surely Facebook most of the things that people needs, private messaging, wall posting, commenting, pictures uploading, videos uploading, live videos, notes, applications (apps) such as games, groups, pages and many more while Twitter is very simple when it comes to features. Maybe I am just a simple person, I don’t know as I don’t like things too complexes and clusters; MySpace is the perfect example. Some of you may not know what MySpace is, some of you may know and remember what MySpace were. MySpace is a wholly different now than it was before, as a few years ago MySpace was the king of social media and MySpace is practically the forefather of the social media whether you accept it or deny it. However, Tom Anderson who was CEO of MySpace at that time decided to sell MySpace for several millions of dollars and sold it to by news corp company. That is when MySpace started rumblings to pieces, Facebook immediately dethroned MySpace within’ a few months after MySpace was sold and Facebook has become what we all knows today — The biggest social media of all. But ironically, MySpace was so popular at that time that it almost bought Facebook off Mark Zuckerberg and that would seal the fate of Facebook ever becoming what it is today while MySpace would still be sitting in the kingdom’s throne to this day. What revert the sale of Facebook to MySpace, were that Mark Zuckerberg was asking too much as he asked for 75 million dollars from MySpace although at the first MySpace had nearly bought it as it wasn’t priced at that high price but once Mark Zuckerberg realizes that MySpace were too excited in buying his Facebook so he decided to skyrocket the asking price to 75 million dollars and MySpace rejected the asking price.

I would imagine that if MySpace had bought Facebook then I am sure that they wouldn’t let Facebook to surpass MySpace, obviously since MySpace would be the one who owns Facebook or unless MySpace decides to somehow integrate Facebook with MySpace so basically MySpace would be a joint of both while under the same name MySpace.

Nonetheless, over years we have seen a lot of social media and websites have started to struggles with their financials. MySpace was declining more than it has ever seen, but MySpace is starting to rise at slow rate although not as it once was years ago and MySpace isn’t the only social media that have struggled as Twitter has struggled more than ever which is somewhat surprising. Now I am a web developer and web designer myself, I have attended college for bachelor degree in web design and multimedia in 2009 although I have dropped out at the end of the year because I figured that since that I am self-taught that I don’t need the degree as long as I have something to prove that I build websites because the more websites I build the more reputation I get for my name as a web developer or web designer so that’s what all counts. Being that said, I fully understood why MySpace started rumbling because it wasn’t meeting most of the people’s expectations as MySpace was transforming from social networking website to music community website which that would explain why a well-known musician who used to own MySpace before selling it to Specific Media but at the moment Time INC is the current owners of MySpace so MySpace have been sold quite few times, to start his own social networking website I believe. If the original CEO of MySpace, Tom Anderson hadn’t sold MySpace for 35 million dollars then there is a possibility that MySpace would still at the top list of social media, either in ahead of Facebook or just behind the Facebook I would say.

That is the summary with MySpace, now on to Twitter. Twitter is number three on the top 15 social networking websites list and the number two is YouTube. Twitter has been catching up, have done a fantastic job by becoming one of the top three social media in very short of time and I can understand why. Some of the people calls Twitter a social networking website, while technically is not as Twitter is more of a microblogging website and since Twitter became one of three most popular social media on the list it has expanded its business further. By doing so, Twitter acquired an live-streaming mobile app namely Periscope from Kayvon Beykpour and Joe Bernstein before Periscope was even launched. So in some way, this was a risky business move for Twitter because as Twitter acquired Periscope before knowing how it would go and this was a successful risky move for Twitter as Periscope skyrocketed in popularity in short time. So fast that CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg started drooling over Periscope and began developing their own live video feature on Facebook so when you use Facebook live video feature then you know it is a copycat from Periscope by Facebook. I am somewhat against that, because I don’t like when people copycat their works or their ideas but again it seems like everybody have copycattd nowadays. CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg is one of the main reasons that it is slowly killing Twitter due to copycatting Twitter’s ideas and that isn’t noble thing to do. I can understand the competition, of course everybody need some competitions to improve their works and challenge other companies but copycatting is an overkill in my opinion. If Mark Zuckerberg is a fan of Periscope then it wouldn’t hurt to give a credit to Twitter for Periscope and develop their own live video on his own ideas instead of these two developers who built Periscope before Twitter acquires it. Of course people sees live feature on Facebook would excite them, I don’t blame them because it is a fantastic feature but wouldn’t you want to use Facebook live while at the same time you are killing Twitter as a company since it owns Periscope since Periscope came first? Think of this, going to Wal-Mart instead of going to a pop and mom store then wouldn’t that make you feeling somewhat guilty for not helping a struggling store to grow? Same concept with Periscope and Facebook live video.

Periscope isn’t what only killing Twitter, Twitter is hurting itself too as if the people is starting to get burnt out on Twitter because Twitter is a very simple website and isn’t in hurry to add more features to Twitter although Twitter have started to add a few features to Twitter since then as they recently added a new feature where we can now add our own moments on Twitter as they are rolling out that feature today. With Facebook aside, what is truly killing Twitter? They cares about users and that is what makes them struggling today. Why? Because the only way, with that amount of users that it has got everyday, it requires tons of bandwidth and tons of disk spaces so that means very expensive servers to run for the company. A server for a such big website as Twitter or Facebook can run in thousands dollars each day or monthly while running a basic website like here only costs about $300-$400 monthly or more depending on how many domains I own. The more domains I own the more expensive it gets for me, which that explains to why I am struggling a bit because my weakness is that I am a sentimental guy and don’t like letting go some domains or selling them that I built a several years ago such as CheckMyPro.com or KillYourBoredom.com which I still owns to this day since the year of 2004. Anyway, as it is expensive to run a such big website like Twitter and you would have to think of a way to make some profits so that they can afford their server monthly while at the same time paying the employees. So that leaves only one option and that is to run advertisements unless some private investors or donors would like to donate a huge amount of dollars monthly to Twitter. Where I said that Twitter cares about its users, because they have tried their darndest best to not bother the users with advertisements as they know and I am sure many of us know that almost no one like seeing advertisements but what a lot of people doesn’t realize is that they are offering the service to us at no cost so in the return they use the advertisements to pay for our service practically. With that large numbers of users and no advertisements? Twitter would have been shut down a long time ago and that goes the same for Periscope or even with Facebook or any popular social media websites. That is why you see some advertisements placed on some of the websites, so that they wouldn’t want to charge you to use their service to help them to pay servers monthly and a lot of them wouldn’t want to even charge you anything in the first place anyway. So why cannot some people appreciate that and in return accept that to let them to run advertisements that is helping them to pay their servers or their employees monthly so that their service can be continued?

The more users, the more expensive it gets due to bandwidth in particular and disk space on the servers while at the same time the more users would means the more money they get to pay the servers monthly so in a way it is balanced. For example, this website is running hundreds of gigabytes (GB) in bandwidth and that would means I have to match that space by paying the servers company to keep up with that. While this website receives about 20-30 thousands visitors a month, let’s say 50 thousands to be safe, that would means I still wouldn’t get all the money from advertisements to pay for the server because it’s not really a high numbers as it is at semi-medium numbers. To get the amounts from the advertisements that matches the servers cost monthly, I would need a double numbers of that and so that says that I am paying about 65-70% out of my pocket for you guys to read my blog. That is what happening with Twitter at the moment, they aren’t getting enough ratio in daily impressions because advertisements rely on that against the size of the users so this would means that they would have to get smarter with how they go about with these advertisements. Increase numbers of advertisements? Convince more advertisers? Market more? There are a few things to name that Twitter would have to consider and I am sure that they will come back to where they were in the beginning or better but at this moment they have struggled for a few months now as they are losing profits than ever so they are selling Twitter.

Twitter

Twitter Is For Sale

Yes, Twitter is for sale and that is actually surprising if you ask me. If it were me, owner of the Twitter I wouldn’t even look into selling Twitter and instead of looking into selling it I would consider looking to hire analysts to find a way to market Twitter better so to pull more advertisers because the more advertisers then the more revenues that it can bring in then that would means more profits for me or for Twitter in this case. Also do the same way with Periscope, since Periscope is under Twitter and be smart in trying to market both so in a way they can shoot two birds with one stone.

There are a few of the companies that are showing interests in making bids to acquire Twitter, Salesforce, Microsoft, Verizon, Disney and Google. There are a few more but these names of the companies that I listed are biggest names of all that is looking to acquire Twitter or sniffing around to see what they can do about acquiring Twitter. Salesforce, Disney and Google shows the strongest interests in acquiring Twitter than any other companies. Now Disney? People is saying that it make sense if Disney acquires Twitter? No, no! That is completely nonsense! Salesforce? Come on! Salesforce is known for online store or some sort and Disney is, well there is no need explanation for that doesn’t it? Good. Google? Google makes sense perfectly. Google is known what? Exactly, tech giant that serve several products including their own social networking website such as Google+ and the most popular video sharing website aka YouTube. Yes, Google is known for the king of search engines but you get my point. Microsoft? Maybe. Microsoft doesn’t have a social networking service I believe, while it is obviously well-known for operating software for the computers that you are probably using now and Microsoft also has a second most popular search engines calls Bing but still it doesn’t specialize in social networking to be exact which that is something that Google specializes in.

At the moment, Twitter is owned by Jack Dorsey and has never been sold although it almost considered selling a couple years ago but then decided not to. Jack Dorsey owns a few well-known websites, Twitter, Periscope and Square (payment processing). Remember I was talking about how MySpace went down as soon as it was sold to News Corp from the original CEO Tom Anderson? That is scary thought about Twitter too. This is why Google would be the one that makes perfect sense in acquiring Twitter than any other companies. However, Apple is sniffing around Twitter too but isn’t showing as strong interest as Google, Disney and SalesForce as these three are the ones with strongest interests in bidding for Twitter. I think that Periscope probably will go with it too, as Periscope is built under Twitter and is integrated with Twitter so that would make sense if Periscope is in the package that comes with Twitter but as for Square I believe that Jack Dorsey is keeping it because Square is actually doing very well at the moment.

As for my feelings about Twitter is putting up for sale. As much as I love Twitter, I use Twitter more than Facebook in fact and all of the wall posts on my Facebook wall or on my Facebook pages is coming directly from Twitter. I am hoping that Jack Dorsey will do what he did before, backed out and changed his mind about selling Twitter then look for analysts or somebody to help him to grow Twitter in terms of revenue. However if Twitter must be sold then I am being very hopeful that Google would be the one to acquire Twitter because it makes perfect sense for Google or to be technical, for Alphabet Inc which is recently founded by Google as Google decided to found a new company named Alphabet Inc while putting all of their services under it including Google. Google is Alphabet Inc and Alphabet Inc is Google nonetheless as it is the same company.

About Alphabet: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alphabet_Inc.

Anyway, it is going to be interesting weeks to watch how the bidding goes between these companies and I hope that Alphabet Inc aka Google will be the winner in bidding war. If however, Alphabet failed to win the bids then I would hope that Microsoft takes it and if that fails then that is actually where I will start getting worried unless Apple decided to come in to rescue me from my worrisome by winning the bid to acquire Twitter. Amazing fictional story, eh!

I am sure by now that some of you notice that I probably loves Twitter a bit too much and I am not going to tell you that you are right or wrong but I have utter appreciation for Twitter because Twitter helped me to grow my brands as we all know – JoshiesWorld. Not just that also with my other business or brands but JoshiesWorld is the main though. It is not just me, that goes the same for many bloggers because it helps them to spread their words around and market their blogs. Same goes for any kinds of businesses. JoshiesWorld weren’t grew based on Facebook, Tumblr, Linkedin, Pinterest, Google Blogger, Reddit, Digg, Delicious and it was only grew based on Twitter as JoshiesWorld is recognized the most from Twitter. If you are going to tell me that I am making it sound as if Twitter is dying, well it could be and it may not be. That is why I am a bit worried about who will acquire Twitter. If Google then we are safe, if Microsoft then we are safe, if Disney then maybe, if Apple then maybe and if SalesForce? Oh boy!
