Many of us want certain things to take care of ourselves, whether our looks or our health, such as our hair, eyebrows, and whatnot. As a man myself, there are two or three things that I must take well care of is my wellbeing, my fingernails, and my beard! Yes, my beard is one of them as I have been supporting one ever since I was in middle school, which is about two decades ago or so, and ever since then, it is what makes me look who I am today. Of course, when I was in middle school, I didn’t have this long goatee, although it was near that long in middle school, I have just started growing my goatee at that time, and now I am supporting a full goatee with a mustache which I have been supporting one even longer than my beard.
I take care of my beard as anyone would take care of their hair, especially those who use different types of things to take care of their hair like shampoo, conditioning, oil, sea salt, and whatnot. The same way I do with my beard, except that I go for more organic products from smaller businesses because they tend to make them better, in my opinion. Although this business has now grown a larger company, I have been its customer since they were just a small business starting. That business who I am a frequent shopper is none other than a company called Beardbrand. The company Beardbrand was founded in 2012 by Eric Bandholz, who worked as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch in Spokane, Washington, and what ignited Eric Bandholz to found Beardbrand was because he disapproved of Merrill Lynch’s “no facial hair” policy, so he decided to leave to start a beard grooming company which is Beardbrand.
Eric Bandholz is not the only founder, as Beardbrand has a few co-founders besides Eric Bandholz, Lindsey Reinders, and Jeremy McGee. Back then, when they started the beard grooming company, I recall, their way of advertising (marketing) for their company was heavily relied on producing videos on YouTube under their Beardbrand YouTube’s channel where they give their fans several tips on how to care for their beard. It worked, as their YouTube was how I discovered their beard grooming products, and I became their frequent customer ever since.
Back then, there was no market for beard grooming care products for home, and many people who have beards often use hair shampoo to wash their beards. That wasn’t a good way to wash a beard, as many hair shampoos have too many artificial ingredients or chemicals that would cause the skin to dry under the beard and beard split-ends. Beard Wash and hair shampoo are a bit different. Beard wash is often to have natural oils in them along with organic ingredients. The bottom line is that the hair shampoo is for hair and the beard wash is for beard; otherwise, you will harm your beard by continuing to use hair shampoo. Here is an excellent blog post by Beardbrand themselves explaining the difference between hair shampoo and beard wash, along with why you should use beard wash instead of hair shampoo for your beard. You can read it here: https://www.beardbrand.com/blogs/urbanbeardsman/beard-wash-softener-vs-hair-shampoo-conditioner-the-difference.
Beardbrand a few different scents, which all have a great smell, and they for sure will grab people’s attention, especially by seeing that your beard improved, which is due to stop using hair shampoo to use the beard wash while at the same time attracting people with the scent! They have different lines, such as white, silver, and gold. Right now, you can only find silver and gold on their website, but they used to sell white lines on their website, but I think they no longer do as they have an exclusive with Target that they can only be the one to sell their white line I believe. Don’t take my word on this that they still sell them, as I found out about this a couple of years ago, so I am unsure if they are still doing this. As I said, they have different lines; starting with silver, they have Tea Tree, Tree Ranger, and Spiced Citrus. The gold line is Temple Smoke, Four Vice, and Old Money. I have tried every one of them, starting with their white line to their gold line (I kid you not). I can remember buying from them from the beginning for about $60 for a set, but now they sell the set for $43, which is, in my opinion, a steal.
For this review article, I will review their gold line Beardbrand Old Money Beard wash and Softener. Here is what Old Money by Beardbrand smells like, which I am copying from their Old Money product page on their website to give you an idea of what they specifically smell like.
Primary Notes: Oak, Amber, Black Pepper, Ylang Ylang, Palo Santo, Lime, Bergamot, Tobacco
Fragrance Family: Woody, Floral, Citrus, Floral
Fragrance Type: Rich & Complex
Beardbrand’s old money products, as their old money in their gold line, is not only limited to their beard wash; they also have them in beard softener, beard balms (styling or utility), beard oil, utility bar (soap), mustache wax, sea salt spray, hair shampoo, hair conditioner, deodorant and just recently they launched an Eau de Parfum. So, old money in their gold line comes in all kinds of products you need for your body care, although they specialize in facial hair but expanded to other areas such as hair, body, and now Eau de Parfum. The name on one of their gold line products, “Old Money,” is what you will smell; it smells like old money, and believe me, they smell great. Old Money scent from Beardbrand is my favorite scent of all; before Old Money, I used to love their spiced citrus, which used to be my frequent purchase until I decided to try every scent that they have, and when I tried their Old Money scent, I have stuck with that scent ever since for a long time. I used to be the typical guy with a beard who has no clue how to take care of my beard except to wash it with shampoo and then comb it after washing my beard. In infrequent times, I would use hair conditioner to soften my beard. For a long time, my beard didn’t have that healthy feeling as it was often to be fizzed and had a funny feeling. When I found out that there was a beard wash, Beardbrand was actually the first one I brought from over some of the other companies that just started making them when the market for beard care began growing. Since I started washing my beard with Beardbrand’s wash and the softening (a set), my beard became very healthy with a soft feeling. It is a completely different feeling for the better, and my beard went from unhealthy looking to good healthy-looking. As I said, the Beardbrand was the first one I brought a beard wash from. It was the spiced citrus that was my first scent from there. After trying them out, I started seeing some other companies start to make them, such as Old Spice, Gillette, and others. I have decided to give them a try as well. Not only that, but I also have tried other small business ones as well. I actually went through a lot of them, which I just realized, but when I try them, I usually give them at least three months to see the result truly, and the only one that made the best result was Beardbrand, so I went back to Beardbrand to stay with them for years now as they are my main store for beard care.
If you have a beard or a goatee, I recommend you immediately stop using the hair shampoo and hair conditioner. Buy the beard wash and softener kit from Beardbrand! They have a few scents that you can find; Old Money has an unbelievably great smell coming from them as it is my favorite scent, but they have other scents that smell great as well, such as their spiced citrus, temple smoke, and four vices. Your beard will thank you for it in the long term; while you are at it, be sure to buy the utility balm from them to improve your beard as well, but if you need something to style your beard (making it straight like a pomade for hair) get their styling balm. The only bad thing that I can think of them is that they are often sold out, so they rarely have some products in stock so if you want to buy anything from there, I would suggest that you purchase the amount that would last you a couple of months so that you can have a month of trying to buy the product from them again when you are out so you can have a backup. Their wash and softening set last me about a month. Please don’t use too much because it isn’t needed as a small amount from them turns out to be plenty when you put a small amount of wash or softener in your beard! The softener goes out quicker than the wash does even though both have the same amount in them, but it is common, which is the same for hair from any company. I would say that you’d go through one and half of softener before running out of one bottle of beard wash. They have other kits that would give you almost complete care for your beard instead of just wash and softener such as wash, softener, beard oil, and beard styling balm kit.
I highly recommend Beardbrand Old Money Wash and Softener. They are my all-time favorite products for my beard care, which I frequently use; thanks to them, my beard is healthy and improved. I am giving Beardbrand Old Money Wash & Softener a 4, which translates great. If you are already using beard wash along with beard softening products by other companies, then you should give Beardbrand a try because you will see that they make your beard better than you would get from other company’s beard care products!

Overall
Bottom Line
Beardbrand Old Money beard wash and softener set is a great beard care product. Beardbrand has several scents that you can use; my favorite is Old Money which is their gold line as they have white (exclusive for Target only, I believe), silver, and gold line. Beardbrand’s beard grooming products will take great care of your beard, better than any other companies that just started making them while Beardbrand has been doing it since 2012. There wasn’t a market for beard grooming products at home until Beardbrand, along with a few others, started making them, and when they did, some of the large companies such as Old Spice quickly joined the market to sell beard grooming products. It is because hair shampoo isn’t good for facial hair, even though both are hair, but no one wants to have dandruff in their beard and having their face dried up, which is why beard grooming products are made differently, especially with natural oils along with organic ingredients while the hair shampoo use artificial or chemical ones in them. So, if you have a beard and use hair shampoo for them, I advise you to stop! Hair shampoo and hair conditioner harm your beard in the long run, which is why it is important to have a specialized wash and softener for a beard since they are made a bit differently for that reason.
I have tried many beard wash and softeners from many companies, but none of them bring the best result like Beardbrand does, which is why I highly recommend Beardbrand Old Money Beard wash & softener. Old Money scent is my favorite out of all scents they have, such as Temple Smoke, Four Vices, Spiced Citrus, Tea Tree, Tree Ranger, and whatnot. All of them smell great, but my favorite is old money; the old money scent for their beard grooming products does smell like money, except that it has that addicting smell that would attract the nose of anyone! I recommend Beardbrand to be the company for your beard care products, as all of their scents smell great, but I recommend giving their Old Money a try, one of their gold line products! Be warned, Beardbrand, unfortunately, sold out many of their products, so I suggest that you at least get one and a backup so that when you are on the backup one, to have enough time to order some more when they are restocked.
I am rating Beardbrand Old Money Beard Wash & Softener a 4, which translates great.
