This is just a very small post for you all to read because this is more on a personal level than I normally write. For many years, I have been looking for pictures of myself when I was young, especially my accomplishments and whatnot. I do know that I was the first student to demonstrate a new computer with disc compact (CD) for Pike County schools in Kentucky; that is the newspaper that I am still in search of, but I have found an old VHS which I am working on figuring out how to transfer the VHS digitally. If so, I will show it around here or on social media. While we were going through old things such as pictures, VHS tapes, and whatnot, I finally found some newspapers with me in them. It was the talk of Pike County, Ky, because I was a student who happened to be Deaf student who was paving the way to get new computers for the students at my school when I was just five years old. During my time in grade school, I was five years old or around that age; when anyone thinks of someone who is a computer whiz, I would be it, and being Deaf is what made me so, which is something I am very thankful for.
Because of that, I am more computer savvy than ever, and not only that, but also technology savvy. I have a deep love for the technology I repair and build, not only the computers; I have also messed around with coding (whether it be software or web development), which makes sense why I am a web programmer as I attended college for my bachelor’s degree.
Nonetheless, enough of that, and I will start showing the scanned pictures from the newspapers that I found through our old stuff. I know that seeing the words (hearing impaired) is like a scratch on the blackboard because hearing impaired is now considered to be offensive, and the proper words to call me or others are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, but again, this was a very back then, so they didn’t know better. The newspaper I will show you is dated September 12, 1992, meaning I was five (5) years old. I was in front of the newspapers, two different newspapers. The first one will be the one with one from the front page, and then there was another one inside, so I am on two pages (front and page 1) from that one newspaper. That newspaper is called Williamson Daily News, so the second and third will be separated to make it easier to read. The last picture is from Wildcat Newspaper, a school newspaper over at Turkey Creek Grade School in Turkey Creek, Ky, but that school is no longer here, which is unfortunate. Anyway, enjoy the scanned pictures of the newspapers here!
Cannot see what they said clearly? No worries, I have added them all into one PDF file where you can open and zoom in to read them here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1k14KwS3XOvCeyJ-Ty-VlYW75w70OBxnT
Awesome right?! These are only some times I was in the newspaper; there are a few more and a few television news, which will be even harder or near impossible to find. If I find any more, I will post them on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and maybe here if they are significant to me. Before I end it here, I would like to personally thank my mother for always being there for me when I started going to school (love you, Mom!) and my former teacher, Herma Shelton, for her tolerance and willingness to educate such students like myself! For that reason, she is one of my favorite teachers, and not only that, she was my teacher and my friend, which is hard to find in a teacher!
