Thought?:
At first, when I started watching the movie, I immediately started thinking that this was going to be basically a rerun of an already well-known movie named Apollo 11 starring none other than Tom Hanks but with this movie “First Man” being starred by someone else. It is unfortunate that a lot of producers in Hollywood like to produce rerun films of something that was already produced. Luckily, I realized that this was something different and that it wasn’t going to be a rerun of the Apollo 11.
Although, I must remind you that there is a similar story between these two movies but Apollo 11 was more of the group that was set to go to the moon while “First Man” is more of about what they were doing before they go to the moon and it was pretty much taking us a ride to Neil Armstrong’s journey almost explicitly. It’s intense, very intense in some scenes as we get to see the difficulties in Neil Armstrong’s life especially after losing his daughter, then losing his co-workers or members of his team and to where he had to basically calculate his way of landing the moon himself as he had the mindset that they are to land the moon and nothing else. The movie is so cinematic, it was if you were there watching Neil Armstrong and it will make you think about the “what ifs” especially that he was having a hard time to deal with his life then was called to command alongside Buzz Aldrin.
Bottom line, if you are a fan of Apollo 11 and wonders how it started then this would be the perfect movie for you to watch but keep this in mind that you will only be following the journey of Neil Armstrong rather than as a group. Want to see the entire group, from start to the end? Get the Apollo 11 starring Tom Hanks which is still hand-down the best space movie in my opinion but I would definitely put this as the alternative to Apollo 11 movie. I am rating “First Man” 3.6/5, which is good but I will not and cannot say it’s better or great as the Apollo 11 movie. Again, First Man is mostly about the journey of Neil Armstrong as it seems and a few bits of other people but the very spotlight is on Neil Armstrong from the start to the end when he arrived the moon. I would recommend this movie, especially great for a weekend night movie!
