Hatfield and McCoy Marathon ’16

June 11th of 2016 in the heated summer, there were one huge local event that everybody looks forward to and that is Hatfield and McCoy Marathon Run. They do Hatfield and McCoy Marathon Runs now and then, to my knowledge it’s once or twice annually as it is how many times I usually sees them but I could be wrong because I don’t know the entire schedules or the deal with Hatfield-McCoy Marathon. Hatfield and McCoy Marathon has always been one of the largest event in the heart of two counties which that is in Pike County of Kentucky and Mingo County of West Virginia. In Pike County, Ky they runs between Belfry to Blackberry and in Mingo County they runs in Williamson which is where the kickoff is and the finish lane is. Why these two counties with two different states you may ask? If you don’t know the history of Hatfield-McCoy feud then I am surprised because almost everybody know the history of them, nonetheless Hatfield-McCoy feud happens between the border of two counties, that is both in Pike County and Mingo County. Specifically between the Belfry in Pike County of Kentucky and Williamson in Mingo County of West Virginia, both of them is a border to two states each others. Now between that, there is a river which is known as Tug Valley’s River so if you were to cross from Belfry to Williamson you would cross where the river is or cross from Williamson to Belfry. Long story short on the history, the leader of Hatfield family is Anderson “Devil Anse” Hatfield and the leader of McCoy family is Randolph “Randall” McCoy who goes war against each others right on the border of these two states. If you want to know the entire story which I highly recommend that you do, I recommend you to buy a book calls Hatfield-McCoy Feud and if you aren’t into book then good news is that they made a movie out of it with the same name of the book “Hatfield-McCoy Feud”.

If you want to know the basic story of the feud between Hatfield’s family and McCoy’s family where they went war against each others I highly recommend that you read the basic story over at Wikipedia (link to it here) to get a basic idea of the deal with Hatfield-McCoy Feud.

Hatfield and McCoy

Now with each family killing each others, shootout in different cities in these two counties and more which made them one of the most known legendary of the all-time in history. But several years after few generations of each family were killed by each other’s family, the new generations of Hatfield and McCoy have come on to a term calling it a truce with each other families so ever since then they are friends with each others. At least the new generations of each family which is inspiring because we sure don’t want to relieve what the people had went through at the peak of Hatfield-McCoy Fued war at that time so they called it truce with each others and since then we commemorate them annually. In honor or dedication to each family, we do Hatfield-McCoy Marathons and not just that the new generation of each family have partnered up together to produce moonshine legally along with other items such as apparel visa versa.

Hatfield-McCoy Marathon happened on June 11th of 2016, I happens to record most of the day of the runners who runs for Hatfield-McCoy Marathon of 2016. I used two cameras to record some videos, GoPro Hero 4 Black Edition which is a camera that I use for anything important because of high quality that it can produce and GoPro Hero 4 Session for more personal use or something that I don’t necessarily need a powerful quality of video or picture. I had GoPro Hero 4 Black Edition on GoPro 3-way pole set up as a tripod on the porch recording the Hatfield-McCoy Marathon far away to not distract anybody and GoPro Hero 4 Session on a broken GoPro 3-way pole as a handheld to record while I am moving around which you will easily identity in the video because if you see a video where I move around then you know it’s being recorded on the Session but if a video that’s being recorded in a spot still then you know it is coming from the GoPro Hero 4 Black Edition. I have recorded almost 7 hours worth, obviously I know that nobody is going to watch the whole thing for seven hours even me so I do some editing with Final Cut Pro X on my new ”15 Macbook Pro to cut out parts of the video where nobody’s running by it and to fast-forward the runners from far until they gets to closer to the front of camera then the speed of video becomes normal so to try to make the video as short as possible. I successfully able to make seven hours into an hour maximum which is somewhat surprising because I didn’t think I was able to bring the video to that much short and I do wish I could make it more shorter but there is no parts left on all the recorded videos to cut out as I have cut out all unnecessary parts then fast-track the runners from far by until they get closer to the camera then normalize the speed of the video.

So I have promised on Twitter and Facebook that I would upload the Hatfield-McCoy Marathon for everybody to watch so here it is! I am embedding the video below but if you want the other way to the video then you can visit the media page and look for Travels & Events Videos Gallery there which is the same video that I am embedding it below here. Feel free to share the video to anybody you want, you can do so by clicking the share button on social media and feel free to leave a comment below here as well if you would like to talk about the Hatfield-McCoy Marathon. If you are one of the runners, I would love to hear how it went for you and which one did you run for? Because to my knowledge there is a few different options for the runners such as half run, 1k, 3k, 5k etc. If you are wondering what is the miles that I recorded in this video, it is at 25 miles as you will see at the beginning of the video as I went down there and recorded crossing the 25 miles on the street. Please be sure to thank the Fire Department, Police Department and Medical Team for their service to make sure that all the runners made it out well. So here is the video and I hope that all of you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed recording and editing the whopping seven hours worth (I didn’t enjoy that).
