Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2

There are many gaming controllers out there that people can choose from, ranging from branded controllers to the aftermarket controllers that gamers can choose, and all of these controllers have different specifications or capabilities such as some can be a universal controller for any gaming devices or controller that can only work with one or limited numbers of gaming devices. We know that two companies dominate the gaming controllers in the gamers world, Microsoft with their Xbox controllers and Sony with their Dualshock controllers. Every controller has something unique about them that differentiates them from others, such as the shape, grip, buttons, and whatnot for every controller out there. But there is one brand that we know capable of the most gaming devices, including PC – Microsoft Xbox Controllers.

Speaking of Microsoft’s Xbox controller, I own their Xbox Elite Controller series 1, which is the first version of their elite controller, and it became my main driver for all of the gaming devices, especially for PC, but I do have a love/hate relationship with the Xbox Elite controller series 1. While the first Xbox elite controller is comfortable, it has good trigger speed, and it was somewhat enjoyable. The keyword is “somewhat” because there one thing that I despise about the Xbox Elite Controller Series 1 is that it does not have a Bluetooth capability, which that means it cannot be used as a wireless controller unless you use their wireless adapter. That wireless adapter (a tiny USB thumb-drive-sized thing) was an annoyance for me because every time I use the controller, I would have to unplug a USB for something to have one USB slot available to plug the wireless adapter for the Xbox Elite Controller Series 1. When I was done with it, unplug the wireless adapter and then plug back in something that I had unplugged earlier, so it gets annoying over time. When I brought the Xbox Elite Controller Series 1, I initially had thought that it has a wireless capability as it was advertised, but it wasn’t because, to use the controller, you would have to use their Xbox controller wireless adapter.

I was getting tired of it, actually. They came out with a new version a few months ago, and that is Xbox Elite Controller Series 2. I did not buy it as soon as it came out because, at that time, when they launched the controller, I had lost interest in playing games. Until last month, since we are in the midst of pandemics that are forcing many people to stay home to avoid being exposed to the deadlier virus than a FLU or most common viruses. I have decided to look for a new controller because I have decided that I have had enough to have limitations, such as using the controller wirelessly via the wireless adapter. I need a Bluetooth controller that would connect to gaming devices; most important to me is PC and then second for Xbox, although I don’t play Xbox anymore, nor do I Playstation. I searched for a Bluetooth controller online, came upon the Microsoft Elite Controller Series 2, and thought that when I saw that they had a new version of the elite, can it be played wireless without an adapter? After discovering that it has Bluetooth, it can be used wirelessly via Bluetooth, which means no adapter (unless a gaming device has no Bluetooth, you need one). I got thrilled about that, so I decided to purchase Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2.

After playing a few games with Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2, two of my favorite games, such as Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey and the newest one came out Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. I now decided to do a review on the Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2!

There are a few things that I immediately noticed that are different from the Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 1 is that it is finally capable of playing wireless via Bluetooth, the thumbs can be adjusted as it comes with a screw that you can use to soften or tighten the motion movement of the thumbs controls which is useful, the controller seems to be more modernized and looks fancier. Also, it comes with the charger for the Microsoft Xbox Elite controller series 2 that you can just put the controller on top of the charging device, and it would start charging right away. What is more, is that it comes with the case as it did the first series, but this one for the series 2 has a hole in the back where you could plug in the cable to your USB charger and charge the Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 within’ the case! It has a magnetic place inside that you can place the Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 charger device so that it can stay in one place tight; all you can do is open the case and put the Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 inside, which it would automatically start charging then you close the case to protect the controller while it is being charged! On the Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 itself, it has all of the buttons that Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 1 had, but it is fancier, improved grip, better feels, still have the trigger buttons in the back, and it has added a new feature to it is the profile selector where you can switch to a different profile on the fly if needed which that is something that the first series don’t have. The Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 quicker response to the controls, which is important, and all of the controls (buttons) are softer, which is a plus! Even better, Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 has an internal rechargeable battery that can last up to 40 hours, unlike the double-A battery in Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 1.

I have to admit that I did have a slight feeling of regret when I brought the Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 1 mainly because of the hassle in dealing with the wireless adapter, and it was almost no different than their basic Xbox controllers except that it had a few more buttons, but it is still advanced controller nonetheless. After getting the Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2, I did have that worrisome thought that it would repeat that I would have a little regret in buying it as I did with the first one, but when I opened the case, and I immediately fell in love with the Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2! I am in awe of it, the Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 is truly an elite controller, and I highly recommend anyone who is games that need an ultimate controller that can be used wirelessly for most of the gaming devices that have Bluetooth. It is somewhat expensive, but this Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 worth it, although the Series 1 was or is not. If you own Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 1 and have that worry about it being like your series 1 – don’t! Because it is better, it is the controller that you would want as a gamer!

I am rating this Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 a 4.1, which translates a tiny bit more than great.

Bottom Line

Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 is truly an ultimate gaming controller and finally an elite controller, unlike the series 1. Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 has been improved a lot coming from the series 1. Fancier finish, better feel with better grips, a quicker response in triggers and buttons. It can be played wireless via Bluetooth, unlike the Series 1, it can last up to 40 hours thanks to an internal rechargeable battery, and it comes with a charging device which can be used inside the case that it comes with as well thanks to a hole feature in the back of a case. This Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 is the gaming controller you would want as a gamer if you look for the ultimate wireless controller that can be used wirelessly via Bluetooth, unlike series 1 hassle of wireless adapter that it came with.

I am rating Microsoft Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 a 4.2, which translates a tiny bit more than great.
