Midway

The other night I have decided to go ahead and watch a movie called Midway. I have been putting it aside for about a couple of years because I wanted to watch the rest of the movies that I had purchased that I believed would be mediocre or less and that Midway would be one of other few movies that I felt would be the better movies to watch, so I was saving the better movies last. I have caught up on several movies that I initially thought would be mediocre, although some of them surprised me. I started catching up on these movies that I believed to be better movies, so last weekend, Midway moved up to my next to watch. Last weekend I decided to watch the Midway movie; if you don’t know what the name midway is, it is an island under one of the United States territories. The island’s real name is Midway Atoll which is close to the state of Hawaii, and after world war two, that island has become well-known for one of the locations that the United States used during their battle of midway.

I was almost excited to watch the Midway movie because their trailer was impressive. If you have not watched Midway and do not want to know the spoilers, then scroll down to see the movie’s rating instead of giving you an overall idea if the movie Midway is good.

The Midway movie’s start will show you a little summary, a process that leads Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor, but before they did so, they invaded China first. Hilter’s blitzkrieg has overrun Europe, and the United States of America has been neutral, which means that the United States has not been involved in a war at that time yet. The United States was sending a few ships to Pearl Harbor, and suddenly Japan sent their air fighters to attack as many as the United States warships on the island Pearl Harbor which was a surprise attack by Japan. Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor’s island was a successful attack by Japan. The Pearl Harbor attack was devastating because it has killed a couple of thousand people and wounded over a thousand people in Pearl Harbor’s attack. Six ships were destroyed or sunk, and 169 United States airplanes. The United States had a difficult time in how to respond to the attack because, at that time, Japan’s military was superior against the United States by numbers as the United States only had three (3) carriers while Japan had ten (10) carriers, the United States had zero (0) functioning battleships, and Japan had nine (9) functioning battleships. Japan had more soldiers, more bombers, more cruisers, and modern equipment than the United States equipment. All the United States had at that time were heavily relied on their skills.

So, as I mention that Japan is already superior to the United States of America and that the only thing that the United States can do is to rely on their skills or their grit, the United States of America had a lot of figuring to do, many of them already expected that they would not make it through if they were to respond Japan’s attack. Still, they needed something that would help them have a fighting chance, and that fighting chance the United States found was none other than Chester W. Nimitz. The United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt has specifically asked Chester W. Nimitz to be world war two commander in chief. He commands the United States’ Pacific fleet against Japan as Chester W. Nimitz was an admiral before becoming the commander in chief.

Nimitz was met up with the codebreakers responsible for intercepting information from Japan and figuring out their next plan or where they were at. They finally intercepted a message sent by Japan saying that they were planning on attacking Midway, which became the United States’ advantage by sending their fleets there with their air fighters. The United States got there in time as Japan did, as Japan was on their way to attack Midway as they did with Pearl Harbor and the United States sent their air fighters attacking Japan’s ships heavily. It was a very long and painful attack by the United States against Japan’s fleet, but they were finally able to sink most of them on their way to midway islands. The United States won the Battle of Midway when they received a message saying that Japan retreated.

The midway movie, I think it is an a-ok movie. I was disappointed, especially after saving Midway movie as one of the last films to watch, as I thought it would be one of the better movies to watch when I run out of other movies I felt wouldn’t be great. Sure, small scenes of their airmen fighting were good, but the problem is that they were just good enough, and I felt that it was way more than that. Pearl Harbor movie starred Ben Affleck was pretty good; it had the scenes that will have you saying “wow!” and as well, it touches your feeling. It made the Pearl Harbor movie starred by Ben Affleck, going from a good film to a great film with Midway movie. Midway’s trailer looks like it would have been an impressive movie and that it had a chance to be a better movie than Pearl Harbor starred by Ben Affleck, but sadly it failed miserably. I cannot see why they did not produce Midway to be a better movie than Pearl Harbor movie starred by Ben Affleck because if Midway movie was not going to be a better move than Pearl Harbor movie, then Midway will be just one of the failed movies that we throw in a box knowing that we already have a better movie about Pearl Harbor attack. Even though there is some action in Midway movie, but they are not enough; they are not action-packed like Pearl Harbor and many other war movies, which that was a bit disappointing for me. The most action we are going to see out of the midway movie is where they would take a straight dive from the sky toward the Japan ships, then drop a bomb and fly off after being fired upon heavily from Japan’s ships to stop them from dropping the bomb on their ships. The second one is a small scene where we would see an action where a pilot was cocky and show off, almost failing to get the plane onto the ship, or when the pilot realized that he did not have enough speed, so he jumped over the ship hovering over the sea almost crashing, but then he made it out narrowly. These three or maybe one more actions is good enough for us to remember about the movie, and the rest isn’t worthy of remembering. Even though the Midway movie is over two hours but it felt like it was so short because I was constantly looking for some action or something crazy like the action that you see in Pearl Harbor’s movie but ended up being disappointed that Midway does not have the half action as the Pearl Harbor movie had.

What about the scene where one of their ships were caught on the fire and that they had some of the soldiers grappling over from the vessel on fire to another vessel and one of them had third burn degree on their hands trying to hold onto the rope to move from the ship on fire to another boat? Eh, no. It was getting good but then disappointed that it scene did not last long. I blame the poor CGI and many of the cutoffs in the midway movie. Unfortunately, the Midway movie sinks like Japan’s ship did at the end of the film. Although these actors did their part, I think it was good, but everything else was bland. It was too bland. Think of it as ordering a hamburger from a restaurant and ended up only getting bland hamburger meat without bread, toppings, and seasoning. I agree with many other reviewers that the Midway movie is a flop which is unfortunate even with their exciting trailer, and I think their trailer is better than the whole movie! It follows a story about midway, but it was more of a summary than expanding the Pearl Harbor attack story as Pearl Harbor’s movie starred by Ben Affleck.

If you have not already watched it, the Midway movie will disappoint you, especially if you are a movie lover and a big fan of war movies. I know I continue saying this, but I am truly disappointed with the Midway movie because it did not even have half as much action as the Pearl Harbor movie had. Would I recommend the Midway movie? No, I cannot, even though the Midway movie is a-ok, but not enough to have my movie recommendation. If you want to watch a movie about Pearl Harbor, then get the movie Pearl Harbor starred by Ben Affleck because it is a lot better than Midway, and it has more action than Midway movie did. Do not let the trailer of Midway fool you as it did me. I am rating Midway movie a 2, which translates ok, which seems consistent with many other movie reviewers as they rated Midway movie between 1.5 to 2.5. If they wanted to make a movie about Pearl Harbor and make it a best, they should have watched Pearl Harbor movie starred by Ben Affleck to know to do more to get ahead of it, but they never did – not even half!

Bottom Line

The midway movie is about the Pearl Harbor attack on Midway islands near Hawaii by Japan as Japan attacked the United States by surprise. The midway film is a bland movie with a summarized story about Pearl Harbor and the midway battle where the United States ships’ fleet found an advantage to respond to Japan’s surprise attack. The midway movie is a disappointment, as it did not have good action scenes and often would cut off when they finally had a-ok action scenes. The Midway movie just made Pearl Harbor movie starred by Ben Affleck to become a better movie instead of a good movie before Midway movie was released. You will get to see how it started the Pearl Harbor attack leading to the battle of midway, but only they are very summarized.

To summarize, I mean concise bits of different stories in the movie rather than expanding them like it was in the Pearl Harbor movie starred by Ben Affleck, and what more is that the Midway movie did not even have as much as half action that Pearl Harbor movie starred by Ben Affleck had. Even though the Midway movie trailer was impressive or seems to be good, they will disappoint you, and their trailer is even better than the whole movie! In my opinion and as well many of other reviewers that the Midway movie is a flop movie. It is a bland movie, and it’s a shame that it is. Midway did not do anything right; as bland as it was, the Midway movie will forever be shadowed by Pearl Harbor movie starred by Ben Affleck. I do not recommend the Midway movie, and don’t let the Midway movie trailer fool you as it did me. I am rating the Midway movie a 2, which translates ok and it is consistent with other movie reviewers who rated the film between 1.5 to 2.5. I consider the Midway movie to be one of the worst war movies now.
