While every day we enjoy playing or surfing with our smartphones and tablets such as Iphone, Ipad and Ipod and as well some of Android smartphones and tablets to watch some movies, to read some books, surf the internet or to play games and we love using them. Most of people now owns these devices and use them daily but Navy in United States soldiers are not allowed to have tablets or such on their fleet in submarine due to their restrictions and we know when they are out on the submarine somewhere in the middle of ocean, they don’t have much entertainment that we do except some of them have DVD player that all of soldiers watch some movies on the fleet and DVD is starting to get old and so is paperback for reading and same goes with CD because almost everyone is turning to digital especially myself and everyone that I know except very few people who I know prefer old fashion things and I do too but only few things that’s old fashion such as VHS and cassette which I am almost sure that a lot of people doesn’t even know what they are especially the young people.
Soldiers love to read some books, while due to restrictions they are not allowed to have devices to read some eBooks as most of us do now and they says that they always read the paperback books and that they passes to every soldier and that it’s starting to fall apart due to age and wearing it out. That sounds boring and a bit of unfair especially we use devices and they aren’t allowed to have them fleet, right? The restrictions that they are not allowed to have tablets and such on their fleet is because of “cybersecurity reason” they said.
That is until now, NeRD!
The Navy soldiers has said that they would like to change the restriction or somehow to be able to have a tablet especially a eBooks reader to read some books while they are in the submarine and they came up with a solution and they went somewhere to find a way to develop a gadget so they could have something to read on the fleet and they were able to come up with the idea that will be allowed to be on their fleet so they are making an eBook reader call NeRD which is short for The Navy Ebook Reader Device. NeRD will come with preloaded with over 300 titles of books and the device will not have any sort of cellular connectivity such as Wi-Fi so to prevent cyber security and prevents spies or anyone to get the location or tempt hackers which is fantastic idea so that they can have something to do while they are long away from home somewhere in the middle of ocean on their fleet and submarine. The NeRD device is almost like Amazon Kindle except more transparent by having no technology inside the device that can be traced/tracked meaning no wi-fi or cellular connectivity.
They said that they partnered with Findaway World who will be developing NeRD for Navy and the Navy will be distributing five of the device NeRD to each submarines in its active fleet and that they plans on to send NeRDs to all Navy vessels so that all soldiers can be entertained by reading some eBooks and it said that the NeRDs will have a mix of fiction, non-fiction, best-sellers, history, classic and among others such as titles of book like “Game of Thrones”, “The Girl With Dragon Tattoo”, “Ender’s Game”, “The Lord of the Rings” and others.
Soldiers who is serving for Navy is looking forward to have them on their submarines and other vessels so they can have something to do. I think this is actually fantastic idea because it is a bit unfair that they weren’t allowed to have such as these gadgets that we use every day but again at same time it is understandable especially when they says that if bringing smartphones or tablets in the submarine or on vessels that they would be easily reveals their location which is very sensitive for Navy because if it comes to a war or fighting overseas it would be more than dangerous for them especially in the battle. I applaud them for that because every soldiers deserves some fun especially that they are serving for our freedom and to defend us as much as possible and they are doing very good at that, I know that some of the people being rude saying that we are paying our taxes for soldiers to have some fun and I tell you with a respect to shut up because they are fighting to protect us while we do nothing to save our country from terrorism and they are so they deserve every possible of fun they can get more than us to ever deserve an inch of fun.
Although they are developing an eBook readers device called NeRD for Navy soldiers, I think it’s still a bit unfair because they still can’t watch movies digitally nor listening to music and I don’t see how come that NeRD isn’t including them while they will have no connectivity howsoever and should be safe enough for them to have some loaded movies and music on their NeRD. It would be a lot better if the NeRD isn’t e-book reader but rather a multimedia device or call it tablet but with no connections in any way but I guess better than nothing.

While that they are developing NeRD device and NeRD will not be sold to civilians or anyone but only will be distributed to Navy and possibly other branches I am sure if Navy or some branch ever decide to agree and have them to all of branches which I am hoping that would happen so that not only Navy to have NeRD but everyone who is active soldiers and if anyone says that we as civilian should be able to buy NeRD, I disagree because we have Ipad and other tablets that the soldiers aren’t allowed to have on their submarine or vessel so they should have a gadget that we are not allowed to have it is fair.
Before wrapping this up I would like to give a message for all the soldiers. I salute every one of you and thank you for serving when you didn’t even have to but you are doing it because you have a heart that none of us have and I have nothing but utterly most respect for all of you, I wish all of your safety wherever you are and because of you all I am very proud to be an American.
