The television show American Next Top Model cycle 22 have ended and the cycle 22 is the last cycles for the television show American Next Top Model starring with Tyra Banks under CW channel. American Next Top Model used to receive millions of viewers annually but lately the ratings for the television show have dwindled more than ever so the production of American Next Top Model have decided that the cycle twenty-two (22) is the end season for the American Next Top Model show and that CW will not renew American Next Top Model for another season which would be cycle twenty-three (23). I was never a fan of American Next Top Model until this year with the cycle twenty-two (22) because of one contestant out of fourteen (14) Nyle DiMarco who happens to be Deaf, proudly Deaf at that which that is something that I am interested because many of people who is Deaf that was on national television or film often would not show that they are proud to be Deaf but Nyle DiMarco is one of very few who weren’t afraid to show that they are proud of their Deaf culture and I am Deaf myself so of course I root for him to win to be the winner of American Next Top Model cycle 22. Nyle DiMarco is the first the first Deaf contestant and is the last one of other contestants for the American Next Top Model since that American Next Top Model will not be renewing for another cycle due to poor ratings.
From the beginning when the Deaf community found out that there is a contestant who happens to be Deaf in American Next Top Model, obviously as expected the entire Deaf community would be rooting for him because he would be representing for the Deaf community since that he is a part of the community that all of us Deaf people are part of so when we see somebody who isn’t ashamed of being Deaf and is going to be on national television or films we always will support him or her throughout.
Because it is very rare that we would be able to have someone who happens to be Deaf, especially who proud of their Deaf culture to be on a national television or in a film so we take every chances we could get to correct the views of millions people about us Deaf people since majority of population in this world view us being Deaf is handicap, disease or severely disabled so we want to correct that view ever chance we can get and finally the American Next Top Model contestant Nyle DiMarco is one of us who was able to get the chance to change millions people views about us Deaf people and surely enough in short period of time after few episodes watching Nyle DiMarco winning non-stop shows millions of people that we are no different from everyone else but only that we just cannot hear. Other difference is that the people who’s able to hear learns by listening and we Deaf people learns by visual. Not only that Nyle DiMarco also took the opportunity to educate millions viewers about the language, American Sign Language which is natural language for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing people — Something we are proud of and preserves.
I am glad that a lot of people who watched American Next Top Model cycle 22 took the interest in learning Deaf nature language, American Sign Language and that it also helps to educate everyone that it’s unfair to make American Sign Language unequal than English when it should be equal in the first place. It is very important that the young generations to learn that if they ever have children that happens to be Deaf or Hard of Hearing that it would be the best interests for their children to start learning the tools of communication is to learn American Sign Language as their first language, in my opinion it is common sense that any newborn child who happens to be Deaf or Hard of Hearing should learn American Sign Language as their first language so that when they gets to the age where they can process whatever they learns then they can start learning English because if parents want them to have a successful future then they need to learn American Sign Language first so that they know how to communicate to learn English or other languages. Believe me it’s a proven fact.
Nonetheless back to the subject on American Next Top Model, when we first learned that one of the contestants are Deaf so we started rooting for that one Deaf contestant which happens to be Nyle DiMarco and we were very nervous because due to many Deaf people’s experiences of being oppressed or being unequal we thought that there would be a very slim chance for Nyle DiMarco to win. Every week we watch each contestant loses, Nyle DiMarco kept on winning, he’s getting closer and closer. We started realizing that Nyle DiMarco chances of winning becomes more possibility, so we took it to social media to encourage everybody to roots for Nyle DiMarco and there he was — Top 4. We thought “okay, okay. He got it” so all we could do was kept on hoping and American Next Top Model announced that on December 4th 2015, Friday that it’s the day for one of four contestant to be a winner of American Next Top Model. So on that day we watched, saw Nyle DiMarco doing the walk and other contestant do their thing then at the end of that episode where two contestant including Nyle DiMarco meets Tyra Banks to announce its American Next Top Model cycle 22 winner.
… Unbelievably thing happens. Nyle DiMarco is American Next Top Model first Deaf winner and the last cycles winner! Deaf community recorded their reactions to Nyle DiMarco winning the American Next Top Model cycle 22 which you can find on YouTube and I couldn’t be any more prouder to see that one of our own in the Deaf community won. That marked another history for the Deaf people, thanks to Nyle DiMarco the nation’s view of Deaf people have changed a bit but of course there is still a lot to work but Nyle DiMarco definitely made the impact.

You can find few episodes of American Next Top Model cycle 22 on Hulu if you are interested in watching how it went with Nyle DiMarco to the end although Hulu can only stream the latest five or six episodes sadly but considering that American Next Top Model isn’t planning on to renew then there is a possibility that Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime to stream the complete seasons of American Next Top Model but I am not sure though.
Congratulation Nyle DiMarco for becoming the American Next Top Model cycle 22 winner, the first Deaf to win the American Next Top Model and the last person to win the American Next Top Model. I hope nothing but the best for you Nyle on your future and looking forward to what else you can accomplish as a Deaf person. You now have a chance of doing something that we rarely ever have the chance of doing and that is to show that there is nothing wrong with us — Leave it at that because we take pride in our Deaf culture and preserve the nature of our beautiful language American Sign Language.
