Pizza Hut’s Pepperoni Lover’s Melt

I am a big fan of Pizza Hut restaurants; who doesn’t love Pizza Hut?! They launched a few new items for their menu not too long ago, and one of them is called Melts. What is it, and what do I think of them? I will share that here, along with a review! At first, I admit that I was so confused with the name of the new item they had put on their menu because the look of it and how they described the food item didn’t exactly give me a clear image of what it was until I looked into it more. If the people over at Pizza Hut and some people come to me to tell me that they resisted ordering that item named Melts or that they are struggling to sell them, then it is no wonder. Because I resisted ordering melts for a while because, again, I was unsure of the food item; if you hear a pizza restaurant telling you that the new item on their menu is called melts, tell me, what does it sound like? Almost like a cheese stick, cheesy, or something that has to do with cheese being melted. Maybe macaroni and cheese? Perhaps it’s the cheese itself but seasoned? Ohh! Maybe it’s deep-fried cheese (which I realized is cheese sticks). That is a problem on their end, I think. Don’t look at the picture; think of the word “melts” and what comes to your mind. Feel free to leave a comment below.

Okay, the other day, I ordered something from Pizza Hut, and of course, I went for Melts since that is what I am reviewing. What is it? It is a calzone! Or some people, like me, calls it pizza turnover. They should have just called that – calzone or pizza turnovers. Then I am sure there wouldn’t be resistance in some people like me from ordering them. Pizza Hut’s Melts are two slices of their thin-n’-crispy crust folded/sandwiched with some powder seasonings on top of them (think parmesan cheese, herb, garlic, or something). You can choose a few toppings made for you, such as Cheesesteak Melt, Meat Lover’s Melt, Chicken Bacon Parmesan Melt, and Pepperoni Lover’s Melt. You get two of them with their dipping sauce.

I picked Pepperoni Lover’s Melt, which is just loaded with cheese, and pepperoni with their dipping sauce, the tomato sauce you would find on their pizza. What do I think of them? I was a bit concerned about the size because, at first, by looking at pictures on Pizza Hut, it looked like they only have two small triangle shapes but ended up they are about the same size as a slice of pizza except that they are folded, and there are two of them in the box. Are they enough? I think so, although if you are starving, maybe get two orders. I think the best way to give you an idea of how much you are eating, think of it as you are eating two slices of their pizza, so if you eat more than two slices of pizza, then you will need to order another one, but if you only eat two slices then this should be plenty enough for you to eat. I ordered two of them, and I ate three out of four (2 boxes), but I hadn’t eaten anything that day (no breakfast, no lunch, etc.), and after eating three out of four, I was so stuffed.

They are cheesy, with plenty enough pepperoni on them, and they are surprisingly delicious compared to other calzone or pizza turnovers I have tried from other places. The crust is somewhat crispy and toasty, but as you take a bite, you can feel full of cheese from a bite and then the pepperoni. Then you will taste herbs, parmesan cheese, and garlic from the crust. Is it oily like many other Pizza Hut food? Yes, but not as much as others, though. They are a great alternative for pizza, if you are burnt out of pizza, then go for these, and I think you will like them, but again it’s like their pizza but with a bit more of an oomph to them if that makes sense. If you order pizza from Pizza Hut, put two slices of the pizza together, put some garlic, herb, and parmesan cheese seasonings on them, and then toast them, which you pretty much get what melts taste like, in my opinion. Would I order them again? Absolutely! I think I will order them on my cheat day (I am on a diet, I ate them on my cheat day the other day) on the weekend. Do I think $6.99 is worth it? It is reasonable, in my opinion, but again you could get a bit bigger calzone or pizza turnover for about $10-$13 at another pizza restaurant, and that’s 2x more than Pizza Hut’s melts. Five slices of pizza turnovers/calzone for $10-$13, while Pizza Hut’s Melts are $6.99 for two slices, so something for you to think about! This is good for an individual, so if you have a family, be sure to get one box for each of you or two if you are hungry. I recommend them, though, especially if you are a big fan of Pizza Hut, like I am. I will give them a rating of 3.5, meaning really good. If it weren’t for the delicious stuffed-up cheese, I would’ve rated it 3.2, which would translate pretty good.
