Dear President Donald Trump, White House Administration and whoever it may concern.
I would like to address this letter to the President Trump, Trump’s Administration and White House especially for the team that is responsible for media, social media team/director, public relations or press team. I and the Deaf community have noticed that since the administration of the President Donald Trump have taken over the people’s house; White House have not yet provided closed captions for all the videos that you have produced to share on social media like YouTube, Facebook or others. By statistics in the United States it shown that there are over fifty (50) million Deaf and Hard of Hearing Americans who resides in the country that you represent for as President. We kindly ask that Trump Administration along with Trump Administration’s team who is responsible for the media and the White House to provide closed captions for every video that you produce for several social services such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and others so that we Deaf people of the America can have access to the information that any other people who can hear could by the sounds. If you provide sounds for all the videos that you have produced and not provide closed captions, then that would be unfair to over fifty (50) million Deaf people in the America. In year of late 2015, a couple of years ago a few of us Deaf people complained about the white house and Obama administration not providing closed captions for all the videos that they have produced. The Obama administration and white house have listened to our request for fair accessibility by providing closed captions which they provided closed captions for every video they produced a couple of years ago until Obama Administration leaves the White House.
After you Trump Administration took over the White House, we noticed that our fought for our equal access to have all the videos to provide closed captions for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing people suddenly halted as from the first video which is President Donald Trump’s inauguration to today’s videos does not provide closed captions at all. With that we felt that it is unfair for us Deaf community, so I have tweeted, e-mailed, tried to message via Facebook and every other way to contact for a few of days but it seems that none of you bothered to respond or act about that. So, therefore I feel that it is necessary to write a public letter to the Donald Trump’s administration and the white house with a hope that this will somehow get the attention from the Trump’s administration or from the white house.
A couple of years ago in late 2015 when we fought to have closed captions for all the videos that were produced by Obama’s administration, our campaign was #WHccNow and you can easily find that on Twitter where there were a lot of Deaf people of the America who asks the Obama administration to provide closed captions for all the videos. Now with my wish that I hope I and some of other great people including a well-known advocate for #WHccNow who was invited to the white house last year namely Braam Jordaan. Braam Jordaan was one or among one of the leading advocate in WHccNow to demand the Obama administration to provide closed captions for all the videos that they post on social media services such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and others will not have to reboot the White House Closed Captions Now (WHccNow) campaign/movement to demand that the White House with Trump Administration to provide closed captions for all the videos since Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) law require that we have equal access to gather any kinds of information especially from videos or others.
Trump Administration and White House represents for all the Americans in America that includes all the backgrounds whether it be white people, people of colors, Deaf people and people with disabilities including people who is blind that needs a transcription for every video that the white house and Trump Administration produces. So again, we ask that Trump Administration and White House to make sure that they provide accessibility to all the people of America whether it be sounds, closed captions and transcriptions for all the videos that is being produced.
