I brought the movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on the day it was released digitally, but I never got the chance to watch the film, so it has been on my movies list for a couple of years, waiting for me to watch. There are many opportunities to watch the film, but I often skip it because I wanted to find the great timing to watch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. After all, it is the end of the Skywalker saga Star Wars franchise. I purchased a good number of movies; I skipped Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and watched some of the others because, again, I wanted to find the good timing to watch it – mainly because I wanted to savor it a bit.
Now that I have watched Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker movie, the ninth (9th) installment of the Star Wars franchise and the last one for the Skywalker saga. So, I will review Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker here.
What do I think of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker movie? Not best. Not by a far shot. They should do a lot better, especially knowing that this installment is the last one for the saga Skywalker or the last era of what we know as Star Wars since the first one came out. The casting in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is just right, their cinematic is impressive, and the movie’s look is great. Their story needs more meat to it; some scenes in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker are amazing, especially when Rey faced Kylo Ren, who is the grandson of the villain face of Star Wars that we know so much, which is, of course, none other than Darth Vader. Another great scene was when Rey herself decided to ignore the advice of Finn to cross a tsunami-looking sea to reach the ruins of the second Death Star where the Sith Wayfinder was located.
Near the end of the movie, you get to see a scene of Kylo doing something that we almost thought he never would, especially for Rey, as we know that ever since the character Rey comes into the picture, both Rey and Kylo was pretty much nemesis. The whole time we know that Kylo has been trying his best to convince Rey to come to the dark side and be by his side to rule together, but Rey always succeeds in resisting Kylo from getting her to come over to the dark side. In this movie, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, did we get to see that Rey is still able to resist Kylo from getting her to come over to the dark side and be by his side to rule together? You will have to watch that because I will not spoil that one for you, but it was pretty good how that turns out. Another thing is that I feel that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker could do so much more, especially on the script or storyline because this movie is over two hours, but it felt like they didn’t do too much for it to be over two hours of the film if that makes sense. For a movie that runs more than two hours, you would expect that they have a lot of things going on in the film but this Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker does not. It is almost like they try to stretch the movie so long to make it look like many things are going on for the film while there is not a lot of stuff going on. For this Star Wars movie to be the last saga of the Skywalker era, you would think that they go out with a bang, especially since we know one of the few faces for the Star Wars is Skywalker. In case you don’t know Star Wars well, Skywalker was a dynasty family in Star Wars, starting with Shmi Skywalker-Lars, the mother of Anakin Skywalker. If that does not ring anything to you, then Anakin Skywalker stepped over to the dark side and became the most famous villain face of the Star Wars that every one of us knows so well – Darth Vader. Before Anakin Skywalker came over to the dark side, becoming Darth Vader, he fell in love with a woman named Padme Amidala, who became his “secret wife.” As Anakin Skywalker turned into Darth Vader, Padme birthed two children who became the main actors for Star Wars representing Skywalker’s bloodline. I am speaking of these two children are none other than Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa-Skywalker.
Leia Organa-Skywalker met a guy named Han Solo, that character we know became the face of the Star Wars in its early days of the Star Wars franchise. Han Solo and Leia Organa-Skywalker had children, and that is the same character who took over as Darth Vader in this movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, although you have seen him in previous modern times Star Wars films. Speaking of that, Darth Vader, his real name is Ben Solo, and he was called Kylo Ren when he crossed to the dark side. That new Darth Vader reigns what they call The Second Order, and the First Order was when Han Solo with Leia Organa-Skywalker were the faces of Star Wars franchise films back then. Luke Skywalker sacrificed his life for the resistance when he was killed by the first Darth Vader named Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker along with his sister Leia Organa-Skywalker were children of the first Darth Vader aka Anakin Skywalker, which is how the famous Darth Vader’s quote “Luke, I am your father!” comes from. They had an Emporer named Palpatine, the head of the first order, and Darth Vader, aka Anakin Skywalker, was working for him in that first order. The family line from the first order’s Emporer Palpatine goes to none other than Rey, and Rey adopted the last name of Skywalker. Why? Because Rey was in a relationship with the same one who became the second order’s Darth Vader, known as Ben Skywalker, a son of Han Solo with Leia Organa-Skywalker.
In an early time, when Ben Solo was struggling with the light force, he fell in love with a girl named Rey, who is now the main character or face of the modern Star Wars franchise films. During that time, Rey became the last apprentice of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa-Skywalker. Later times, I mentioned that Skywalker adopted Skywalker as her surname because she considered Skywalker her family due to Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa-Skywalker even though she is not part of the Skywalker bloodline. Since then, Rey Skywalker is currently the only living person known to bear the Skywalker name. Long later, Rey discovered that she was a granddaughter of Skywalker’s family enemy, and that is none other than the first order’s Emporer Palpatine!
So, in this movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the last saga of Skywalker’s bloodline, and that means in the future for the Star Wars franchise, there will not be a real Skywalker even with Rey is the last living one that carries Skywalker’s name but the biological bloodline of Skywalker is no more after Ben Solo known as Kylo Ren who’s a son of Han Solo and Leia Organa-Skywalker. So, technically Skywalker bloodline ended with Ben Solo due to Leia Organa-Skywalker’s son, and Leia Organa-Skywalker is the daughter of Anakin Skywalker (the first Darth Vader).
It is bittersweet, I admit. You will get to see both Leia Organa-Skywalker and Ben Solo, known as Kylo Ren, due to being on the dark side as the second order’s Darth Vader for the last time in this movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Rey all along had a mission is to end that new order, the second-order, and that new Darth Vader to go along with it, which is Ben Solo as the last Skywalker’s bloodline if we are to be technical. Someone from Emporer Palpatine is on the light side fighting against someone from Skywalker’s bloodline on the dark side, talking about a complete opposite!
I rather not to spoil too much or ruin too much, but with that being said, I think that this Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker should have been a lot better, and I wished that they were more creative in adding more different parts of the storyline for this Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. But one thing I can say is that this Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker did go out with a bang did pretty good at tying up the saga of Skywalker, but I will say that this Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is far from being the best Star Wars movie. Star Wars’ previous movies with Rey are better than this one, unfortunately, in my opinion. Yes, better than Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is the title of the Star Wars movie before this one, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is one of the good Star Wars movies, but not the best and certainly not better than the last one or before. I do not want to say it is the worst movie for Star Wars because it is not. It is far from the worst but far from the best. This one might disappoint some Star Wars fans like myself, but one thing we can say is that it was a good way to end the era for Skywalker, although it should have been a heck a lot better than how it was, especially on the storyline (scripts) side. Would I recommend Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker? I do; if you haven’t watched all of the Star Wars films or aren’t in touch with the Star Wars franchise, then this movie might be a bit better to you than it is to us who have been following Star Wars from day one. As goes for Star Wars, I highly recommend that you start with the first Star Wars movie and then watch all of them to this last one, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Then you would get a better understanding of what happens because mainly in that movie, you are going to see a lot between Rey, who is the granddaughter of the Emporer Palpatine of the first order, and Kylo Ren, aka Ben Solo, who is the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa-Skywalker; also a grandson of Anakin Skywalker the first Dart Vader.
As for my rating for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, I am giving it a three, which translates good. I recommend Star Wars; The Rise of Skywalker, but I encourage you to start watching the first Star Wars movies to the last, which is this one, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Bottom Line
The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker isn’t the best Star Wars movie, which is unfortunate, but they did a pretty good job to go out with a bang to end the Skywalker saga. There is so much room that they could improve; it felt almost like they tried to stretch the movie as long as possible without adding more storyline in some of these gaps. They did a great job with the cinematic, especially when Rey across the monster wave of the ocean to reach the ruins. Few scenes in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker did beautifully cinematically, including that one, and as well when Rey was about to face the grandfather of the most famous villain of Star Wars – Darth Vader. As goes as far for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to end the saga/era of Skywalker, they did pretty well at that, and I am almost satisfied enough to say that they went out with a bang to end the saga/era of Skywalker, but I still think that there is so much that they should have added to the movie, but they did not take that opportunity to do so. This disappoints many of us who are long-time Star Wars fans.
It was a bit sad to see the era of Skywalker coming to an end; as Skywalker’s bloodline is pretty much the face of the Star Wars, I think they should have done so much better, although they did accomplish in ending the Skywalker saga/era pretty well. Still, again I would love to see it be a lot better. As I said, this movie felt like it had been stretched as far as they could, but they missed the opportunities to add a creative storyline in these gaps. For anyone who wants to watch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, I suggest that you watch the entire Star Wars movie that leads up to this movie because it makes more sense with this movie than watching it without knowing the story of Skywalker in Star Wars.
You can find the list in order of Star Wars movies above, starting with the first movie of Star Wars, then leading up to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which is the latest Star Wars movie they made.
It was an amazing journey of the Skywalker saga/era; it was bittersweet to see that the period of Skywalker comes to an end. Would I recommend the movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker? I do. It is a good Star Wars movie, but it is far off from being the best one, and it should have been the best one because it is the end of the Skywalker’s era.
I am rating Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker movie a 3, which translates good.
